Sport Day 2024
The overnight rain and overcast skies did not dampen the spirits of all those involved in the recent Sports Day at Quorn Area School. The event was a resounding success, filled with enthusiasm, teamwork, and memorable moments that will be cherished by learners, staff, caregivers, and community members alike.
A Spectacular Start
The day started with an energetic opening ceremony where learners from all grades paraded around the field, proudly displaying their house colours. The excitement was palpable as Monique Griffiths delivered an opening address emphasising the importance of participation, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
Exciting Events for All Ages
A diverse range of events ensured that every student had the opportunity to shine and enjoy the spirit of friendly competition. Events included:
- Track: Despite the challenging underfoot conditions, the track events showcased incredible speed and coordination, with the relay races bringing the crowd to their feet as teams passed the baton with enthusiasm and speed.
- Field: These field events highlighted the commitment of many of our learners to develop their techniques and contribute to the success of their house.
- Fun Games: Creating opportunities for our youngest learners to take their first steps in organised sport is a massive undertaking. Their sheer joy and enthusiasm were a true highlight of the day, and we thank Kate Neu and her team for organising such an inclusive and exciting day, emphasising participation and enjoyment over the competition.
Community Engagement and Support
We were delighted to see so many caregivers and family members attending and supporting the learners. Their cheers and encouragement added to the festive atmosphere and motivated the children to give their best.
A special thank you goes out to the Parents and Friends group for organising refreshments and snacks that kept everyone energised throughout the day. The delicious treats and cool drinks were much appreciated by all.
Closing Ceremony and Awards
The day concluded with a well-supported closing ceremony where participants were awarded medals and certificates recognising their achievements and participation. Kanyaka emerged as the overall winner, accepting the Sports Day Trophy amid cheers and celebrations.
Monique Griffiths congratulated all learners for their hard work and participation, emphasising that every learner is a winner for putting in their best effort and embodying true sportsmanship.
Gratitude and Acknowledgments
We extend our deepest gratitude to all the teachers, staff, volunteers, and parents who contributed their time and effort to make this event possible. Your support and dedication are what make events like these successful and memorable.
Looking Forward
This year's Sports Day was not just about competition but about coming together as a community to celebrate health, fitness, and camaraderie. We look forward to continuing this wonderful tradition and creating more joyful memories.
Thank you to everyone who participated and attended. Let's keep the spirit alive and continue to support our learners in all their endeavours!

SPORTS DAY
Despite the weather, our sports day was a fantastic success, thanks to the incredible efforts of everyone involved. We extend our gratitude to the athletes who participated and pushed their limits and those who committed to after-school practices. Special thanks go to our dedicated staff and volunteers for ensuring everything ran smoothly, and to the parents and friends who organized and managed the canteen, working tirelessly behind the scenes. A big shout-out to our house captains for their outstanding leadership, and congratulations to our age group champions and Team Spirit Award recipients, who excelled and inspired their peers. We also appreciated Hawker's presence, which added to the day's energy and atmosphere. JAM BAND
Recently, Quorn Area School had the pleasure of hosting a performance by the talented JAM Band, and it was a great experience for everyone involved. The band captivated our students with their dynamic energy and incredible music, creating an atmosphere of excitement and creativity. As promised, we’ve put together a video that highlights the students' engagement during the performance, capturing their enthusiasm for being on stage. This visit was a wonderful opportunity for our students to connect with live music, and we’re thrilled to share these special moments with you.
Primary Report
New Teaching Spaces
This last week was exciting as the newly renovated teaching spaces were finished, and teachers started moving into their refurbished rooms.
Our class started in our room this week with great excitement. We can’t wait until all classes are in their rooms.

Book Week
Last Thursday, we celebrated Book Week. Seeing so many of our primary learners (and staff) dress up for the occasion was great. We are putting together a video to send out to everyone, but here are a few photos taken by Mrs Reed on the day.
Children’s University
We have had some amazing lunchtime sessions so far this year with our Bottle Rocket launch taking place this Wednesday. Don’t forget to bring a bottle if you didn’t attend our first Bottle Rocket Design session.
We have six weeks left to complete additional activities and to demonstrate your extracurricular achievements.
Please note - if you are new to the program, you need a total of 30 hours to graduate with a bronze award.
Those who graduated last year can carry over and add to their 2023 total – however, they will need to reach the threshold requirements for the next certificate level, as listed in their passport. This may be more than 30 hours.
For example, if you graduated last year with 33 hours, you will need an additional 32 hours this year to achieve the 65 hours required for the silver award.
Cut-off dates - Students are required to hand in their passports this year by Monday, Week 1, Term 4. This will give you about a week to work out each member’s total.
Children’s University Graduation Date
Tuesday the 26th of November from 5:15 pm at the Central Oval (Flinders Room). Invitations will be delivered over the next few weeks, and gowning sessions have been scheduled.
Please contact Monique Griffiths if you have any questions about the hours or graduation.

PPE Talk
Recently, we hosted a Periods, Pain, and Endometriosis Program (PPEP) Talk at Quorn Area School. The feedback we received from learners was overwhelmingly positive, with many finding the session informative and gaining valuable tools to manage period and pelvic pain. A flyer for the upcoming FREE PPEP Talk is attached. Additionally, we encourage learners who have identified a more complex pain concern or those who want their caregivers to learn more to attend the Next Steps session. This FREE online session offers a chance to ask questions of Gynaecologist and Pain Specialist, Associate Professor Susan Evans. Learners can register for the upcoming session using the below link.
FLINDERS UNI
Recently, Flinders University visited Quorn Area School, offering senior students an insightful presentation on pathways and courses, as well as personalised 1:1 sessions to discuss their options.
