Annual General Meeting

Your involvement in the election process is crucial in selecting individuals representing the interests of parents, teachers, and learners in the coming year. We encourage all members of our school community to attend this important event, share your insights, and contribute to the discussions that will shape the future direction of our school.

Zoo Snooze

The recent excursion to Adelaide successfully achieved its educational objectives and provided students with a memorable and enriching learning experience. It was a mammoth undertaking that could only be achieved with the incredible support of so many individuals and groups. The financial assistance of the Parents and Friends group enabled us to reduce the cost to families significantly, and we thank them for their continued support. The staff worked tirelessly to make the event happen and willingly gave their time to support learners throughout the long journey and hot night. We would also like to thank the volunteers whose support and enthusiasm were truly appreciated by our learners and their families. Collectively, these people provided a unique and richly rewarding experience for so many young people.

Smoke-free and vape-free areas – new regulations

From 1 March 2024, South Australia has introduced new regulations extending the smoke-free and vape-free areas to within 10 metres of site boundaries.

This includes:

• School drop-off and pick-up zones that are within 10 metres of the school fence, gate or boundary
• School ovals and sporting fields and within 10 metres of the boundary of the oval or sporting field
• Footpaths, roads, public nature strips and public recreation areas that are within 10 metres of a school boundary.

Primary Report

Year 5/6 News

We’ve had an exciting start to 2024 in the Year 5/6 classroom. Here are some of the highlights so far:

Camp

The Year 4-9s all travelled to Adelaide in Week 4 this term for camp. The 4/5s embarked on an unforgettable Zoo Snooze adventure at Adelaide Zoo. One highlight of the trip was a night walk through the zoo, offering a glimpse into the nocturnal behaviours of the animal kingdom. For the Year 5s, sleeping under the stars in rooftop tents within the zoo grounds added a touch of magic to the experience. The educational journey extended beyond the zoo with visits to the South Australian Museum and the iconic Central Markets.

The 6-9s also had their adventure at Monarto Zoo, complete with a bus ride around the zoo, teamwork activities and a bongo drum awakening! Keep an eye out for Ms G’s video to see how both camps went!

PE

We started our PE learning this term with team-building activities that the 5/6s enjoyed. The learners embraced the challenges, promoting a positive and cooperative atmosphere. As we move into the next phase of our PE learning, the teamwork skills we have been working on will be integrated into our netball games. Building on the foundation of collaboration and effective communication established during the team-building exercises, the 5/6s are ready to channel their skills into netball games, trialling different positions and team allocations!

Art

Learners in the 5/6 class have worked hard over the past few weeks to finish their ‘Real Me’ self-portraits. They used oil pastels to draw and decorate their self-portrait, and in a flap under their head, they drew or stuck things they liked, enjoyed, or thoughts they had to show the ‘real them’. The artworks are fantastic, offering an insightful glimpse into the 5/6 class.

Numeracy

Our Numeracy group started the term by exploring place value and large numbers up to 10,000,000. The learners have engaged in activities to compare and order these numbers and have now started working with decimals and negative numbers.

Spanish

The 5/6 class has begun a new Spanish adventure this year. We are travelling around the Spanish-speaking world in our classes, learning new phrases, creating fact files about different countries and learning about their culture. So far, we have travelled to Peru and Mexico and are about to take off to experience all that Argentina offers. Stay tuned for our findings!

Secondary Report

GRIP Conference

The Grip Conference was an exciting adventure for us as secondary student leaders. Mia Crisp, Ella Holtham, Sam Finlay, Noah Kruger, and Gemma Peart embarked on a journey to Adelaide on February 26th to attend this event. Our teamwork skills were tested immediately as we tackled the Jailbreak Escape Room at Adventure Rooms in Rundle Mall. After an eventful day, we settled in Glenelg for the night, gearing up for an early start the following day.

We headed to the Adelaide Entertainment Centre for the Grip Conference the following day. The sessions we participated in were tailored to enhance our leadership abilities:

• Being a Student Leadership Team that Takes Steps Forward.
• Making Meetings More Effective.
• Sacrifices of a student leader.
• How to make our events matter
• How to lead when it feels like nobody wants to follow.
• How to make improvements to our school culture

These sessions taught us new leadership skills, ideas, and events to improve our school community. We collaborated with other schools to find new ways and ideas from a different perspective. Overall, this leadership conference was a fun and interactive experience for us all.

We are eager to integrate our newfound knowledge and ideas into our school community. Starting this week, our Learning Action Team Representatives will don yellow hats to identify them as someone you can talk to if you have a concern or need help. Our Term 1 Motto is, "If you could be anything, be kind," which will be the focus for our LAT team out in the yard, while our House Captains will host gym sessions on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.

We are excited about the initiatives we plan to implement this year and will keep everyone informed about upcoming events through the Schoolzine App. Stay tuned for more updates!

Learner Action Team – Yellow Hats

Zoo Snooze

Our time at Monarto Safari and Adelaide Zoo was an unforgettable experience filled with adventure and learning. From the large enclosures of Monarto Safari to the lush habitats of Adelaide Zoo, we were immersed in the wonders of nature. At both camps, we encountered majestic wildlife up close and gained a deeper appreciation for conservation efforts. We learned about the importance of biodiversity and sustainability through engaging workshops and interactive activities while developing our teamwork.

Registration Date Extended

We are reminding you that the extended registration deadline for Children's University is approaching fast. Please ensure your child is registered for this enriching opportunity by Friday, March 8th. Children's University offers a variety of educational experiences outside of school hours, helping your child broaden their horizons and develop new skills. Take advantage of this chance for your child to embark on a journey of learning and discovery.

Those who registered in the first round will receive their passport and CU package at this week's primary assembly. 

Art Club

We want to develop an Art Club during breaks to foster creativity and provide students with a fun and enriching outlet for artistic expression. Watch this space.
